Secret #1: Protect Your Skin
When you head out into the sun, you should always wear sunscreen. You can skip it if you’re going out into the sun for less than fifteen minutes, but any longer and your skin will begin to suffer the consequences. Remember that the fairer your skin is, the higher the SPF you need. If your skin is especially sensitive- no matter how light or dark your coloring is- you will also want to add on a little extra SPF. Remember that sunburns are bad for health, bad for your skin, and are generally bad feeling (and looking).
Secret #2: Hydrate Inside and Out
The summer months call for some extreme hydrating. Start on the inside. Make sure to drink plenty of water. Eight glasses of water are usually sufficient, but if you are in extremely hot conditions, are exercising, or drink some extra caffeine, you will need to drink more. We’re going to go a little TMI, but the best way to determine whether or not you are getting the appropriate amount of water is to check the color of urine. If it’s yellow, you need to drink more. If it’s clear, you’re doing great! On the outside, you should make sure to apply lotion to any dry areas of your body and special moisturizer to your face. I say this a lot, but yes, oily skin types need to do this to!
Secret #3: Keep The Makeup Modest
If you don’t have to wear makeup, don’t. If you do, keep it simple and light. During the summer months you’re skin will look naturally flawless if you take proper care of, so don’t worry too much about makeup. Besides, during the summer you sweat, which causes your makeup to run and smudge, which in turn causes blemish breakouts.
Secret #4: Keep Working Out
Don’t let up on that awesome workout routine you’ve been using! Not only will it keep you look slim and bikini ready, but it will also keep you healthy in general. Most experts agree that you should get at least thirty minutes to an hour of moderate activity every single day in order to reduce your risk of diabetes, heart problems, and of course, weight gain. Summer is also the perfect time of year for weight loss since there are more opportunities to be active. So go ahead and break out those bikes and running shoes!
