Dry skin is under your control. Here are 3 simple ways that you can change your environment to keep dry skin under control.
Using Moisturizer Correctly
One of the biggest problems when applying moisturizer is doing so on a completely dry face. It should be applied directly after a bath or shower while the face is still moist. Those that use moisturizers on a dry face are advised to use only those that are thicker and greasy and offer more hydration.
To know if a cream is thick enough for a dry face, put some cream on your palm and turn your hand palm down. If it sticks, it is thick enough.
Dermatologists also say that many people are not aware how much moisturizer they need to use and at the risk of applying too much and becoming oily, they use too little. They advise to apply it to the point of obsession and let it absorb before putting on makeup.
Using a humidifier
Humidifiers are great in the cool winter months when you have the heating on full blast and the fire soaking up every bit of moisture. If you do not have a humidifier the next best option is to strategically place glasses or bowls of water around the house, near heaters or on window sills.
Sunscreens also have properties that protect your skin against indoor heat and air conditioners. Lightly press the sunscreen onto your face over your moisturizer without rubbing it in to create a protective barrier.
Protect from the sun
Like all kinds of heat, the sun’s rays dry your body. Sun-damaged skin might appear dry and damaged. Remember during the summer to use an adequate protection on the face and body even when you are looking to add some color to your skin. Remember that a healthy tan is caused by the Infrared rays and not by the ultraviolet rays so a good UV blocker will still let you absorb a deep golden tan.
Just being aware of the artificial air and how harsh it is for our skin us can help us to adjust our daily habits and incorporate new ones. Remembering to moisturize and apply skin daily are two points that can not be emphasized enough.
